Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region Civil Airports Group Co., Ltd. was established on December 19, 2003, formerly known as the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region Administration of Civil Aviation. On December 19, 2005, the People's Government of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region entrusted Capital Airports Holdings Limited with the operation and management of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region Civil Airports Group Co., Ltd., which became a member enterprise of Capital Airports Holdings Limited. By the end of 2022, the Group had managed 22 airports in operation in the autonomous region (excluding airports in Manzhouli and Erdos), forming a multi-level airport management system covering trunk lines, branch lines, commuter, and general airports. Airports under the Group are Hohhot Airport—one trunk airport—13 regional airports in Hulunbuir, Zhalantun, Ulanhot, Arxan, Tongliao, Huolinhe, Chifeng, Xilinhot, Erlianhaote, Ulanqab, Baotou, Bayannur and Wuhai airports, three commuter airports in Alax Zuoqi, Alax Youqi and Ejinaqi in Alax, and five general airports in Urad Middle Banner, Xinbarag Youqi, Xianghuangqi, Zhalaiteqi, and Tuquan.

In recent years, the Group, guided by the strategy of "linkage between trunk and branch airports", has persistently practiced the people-centered development concept, with a commitment to safety, and constantly met the new needs of the people for better air travel. In 2022, facing the great test of the epidemic, the Group deepened the strategy of "linkage between trunk and branch airports", continuously promoted the construction of an inter-airport interconnection route network in the region, and made every effort to restore the air transport market. In the whole year, it handled an annual throughput of 8,954,100 passengers, supported 103,200 transport landings and takeoffs, and had a cargo and mail throughput of 36,700 tons, contributing to the regional economic and social development and the travel needs of the people.
