Hulunbuir Hailar Airport is located in the hinterland of Hulunbuir Grassland and Dongshan, Hailar District. It is a veritable grassland airport and a national first-class air port. In 1932, an airstrip was built in Dongshan, Hailar. In 1995, Hailar Air Port was officially opened to the outside world. After years of development, the infrastructure keeps improving. Hulunbuir Hailar Airport has become an important hub for the country to open to the north and the largest airport with the most complete functions and the busiest business in eastern Inner Mongolia. Hulunbuir Hailar Airport has a 4D-rated airspace area, with a runway length of 2,800 meters and a width of 45 meters, which can be used for Boeing 757-200 and smaller aircraft models. It has one parallel taxiway, five vertical linking taxiways, seven jet bridges, and 11 remote stands. It is the first regional airport with equal-length parallel taxiways in North China, Northeast China, and Northwest China. Hulunbuir Hailar Airport has always been committed to serving the local economic and social development. In recent years, it has continuously improved the aviation network system, made great efforts to improve the aviation accessibility between Hulunbuir and major cities in China, and gradually built an "air fast track" connecting the grassland and inside and outside the region. After the localization reform, Hulunbuir Hailar Airport developed rapidly. The passenger throughput exceeded 100,000 in 2004, 300,000 in 2008, 500,000 in 2009, and one million in 2012. In 2017, it became the first regional airport in North China with passenger throughput exceeding two million. In 2019, the passenger throughput of Hulunbuir Airport hit a new high, reaching 2.558 million. From 2020 to 2022, the passenger throughput ranked first among regional airports in the region for three consecutive years. In August 2022, the approved peak hour capacity of Hulunbuir Airport was elevated from eight sorties per hour to 12 sorties per hour. Hulun Buir Airport will take this opportunity to continuously enhance the endogenous driving force for development, accelerate the management transformation and upgrading, and contribute to the high-quality development of Inner Mongolia Airport Group.
