Chifeng Yulong Airport is located in Harqin Qi of Chifeng City, near Provincial Highway 206 and 12 kilometers away from Chifeng City. Its predecessor was the Chifeng Station of the Civil Aviation Administration of China established in 1958. In 2004, with the approval of the State Council and the Central Military Commission, it was agreed to rebuild and expand Chifeng Airport to be shared with the Air Force Chifeng Airport. Construction started on August 25, 2006, was completed on October 20, 2007, and passed the industry acceptance of the CAAC North China Regional Administration on December 15 of the same year. On March 20, 2008, it was transferred and relocated and officially put into operation at 0:00 on that day. In April 2019, Inner Mongolia Civil Aviation Airport Group restructured its head and branch offices and changed its name to the Chifeng Branch of Inner Mongolia Civil Aviation Airport Group Co., Ltd. In 2019, the preliminary design and budget estimate of the Chifeng Airport Reconstruction and Expansion Project were jointly approved by the Development and Reform Commission of the Autonomous Region and the CAAC North China Regional Administration, and construction started in an all-round way at the end of the same year, with a total investment of 1.401 billion yuan. On August 19, 2022, the transition and relocation began, and it was officially put into operation at 0:00 on August 20. Chifeng Airport Terminal is built according to an annual passenger throughput of 2.78 million. The total construction area of the terminal is 31,354.89 square meters, and the building height is 28.15 meters, with a 4C-class airfield area. Nine boarding bridges are newly built, which can be used for the take-off and landing of Boeing 737-800 and Airbus 320.
