Xilinhot Airport was built in August 1958 and put into use in October of the same year. With the development of the local economy, it was relocated to the current site 9.5 kilometers southwest of Xilinhot City in 1992. After reconstruction and expansion in 2001 and 2008, the airport covers an area of 1.815 million square meters. At present, the technical level of the Xilinhot Airport airfield area is 4C and the runway is 2,800 meters long, with six parking spaces. For many years, Xilinhot Airport has always adhered to the concept of "People's Aviation for the People”, actively explored and released new development momentum in light of evolving circumstances, and made beneficial explorations in regional express lines and connectivity. At the same time, it has made full use of Xilinhot Airport's favorable clearance resources and comprehensive support capability, and actively introduced training flight business on the premise of ensuring normal flights, which has played a positive role in the local economic and social development of Xilingol League.

In recent years, with the continuous improvement of Xilinhot Airport infrastructure, the airport has seized the opportunity brought by the local government to shoot ahead in building an airport that can handle one million passenger traffic, taken the construction of a "branch-to-branch" route network as the main breakthrough, continued to give full play to their location advantages, connected airports in the region, actively created "high-grade transit routes", implemented the principle that Inner Mongolia Civil Aviation Airport Group will provide services in response to local economic development, and build it into a high-quality and high-standard regional airport.
