Baotou Airport, built in 1934, is the earliest airport erected on grassland.

Baotou Airport has two terminals, including 30,000 square meters of domestic terminals and 11,000 square meters of international terminals. With a 4C-level airfield area, Baotou Airport has a runway 2,800 meters long and 45 meters wide, with 15 parking spaces on the apron, including 3 Class B stands, 11 Class C stands and 1 Class D stand.

In 2016, the temporary air port of Baotou Airport officially opened. In 2017, the passenger throughput exceeded two million for the first time, officially entering the ranks of medium-sized airports. In recent years, Baotou Airport has thoroughly implemented the strategy of "linkage between trunk and branch airports" of Inner Mongolia Civil Aviation Airport Group and taken accelerating the development as the top priority, with a commitment to the point that innovation is the primary driving force. It has implemented strict safety standards, improved service quality, unswervingly pushed forward Baotou's "sub-hub" airport strategy, continuously improved the route network, and built a "package flight" transit service brand. Also, it has deepened the construction of the service management system, continuously met the new needs of the people for better air travel, and contributed aviation power to local economic and social development.
