Yanji Chaoyangchuan International Airport is a military-civilian airport, located in the southwest of Yanji City, the capital of Yanbian Korean Autonomous Prefecture, five kilometers away from the city center, about 27 kilometers away from the border area with North Korea, and about 80 kilometers away from the border area with Russia. The airport was built in 1952 during the War to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea and was originally a small military fighter airport. On April 12, 1985, it was approved by the State Council and the Central Military Commission to be changed into a military-civilian airport, and Yanji Station of Civil Aviation was established on July 1 of the same year. On April 7, 2005, Yanji Airport was approved as a portal airport by the General Administration of Customs. On May 17 of the same year, Jilin Civil Aviation Airport Group Yanji Airport Company was established. In 2011, the passenger throughput of Yanji Airport exceeded the million mark for the first time. On June 9, 2017, Yanji Airport was renamed Yanji Chaoyangchuan International Airport. The airspace area of Yanji Airport is 4C, and the runway is 2,600 meters long and 45 meters wide. Class I precision approach instrument landing system, 3+1 jet bridges, 11+1 parking spaces (No.12 paring area), and Level-7 fire rescue systems are installed on the runway in both directions, which can be used for Airbus A321, Boeing 737-900 and below to take off and land at full load. The terminal covers an area of about 21,720 square meters, with 16 check-in counters and ten security check-in passages, which can guarantee 10 flights stop at the same time during peak hours. Yanji Airport has opened to 26 popular cities, including Russia's Vladivostok, Japan’s Osaka, North Korea’s Pyongyang, South Korea’s Seoul, Pusan and Daegu, Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, and Ningbo in China. Focusing on the high-quality development of civil aviation, Yanji Airport positioned itself as one "facing the important regional gateway airport in Northeast Asia and an important power source for regional economic development" during the 14th Five-Year Plan period. It has decided the route development plan of "going in the west and going out in the east, strengthening the south and expanding the north, developing both inside and outside, and striving for freight transportation" and the route development goal of "crossing the sea and landing on the island in the southeast, two gateways and one grassland in the northwest, stopping and landing in the Central Plains, and leading the regional gateway". Yanji Airport has successively won the titles of “Best Regional Tourism Airport”, “National Red Tourism Demonstration Airport” and “Airport with Excellent Service Quality” in the 1-2 million passengers per year category". Its image as a small airport and an international model has been deeply rooted in people's hearts.
