Tianjin Binhai Airport was founded in 1939. On August 1, 1950, the first civil plane of New China took off from here, and Tianjin Binhai Airport was therefore known as the "Cradle of New China’s Civil Aviation".

Tianjin Binhai Airport has a grade 4E airstrip, with two runways, two terminals, and three first-class cargo terminals, which have the support capacity of annual passenger throughput of 25 million and cargo and mail throughput of 720,000 tons. It aims to meet the demand for annual passenger throughput of 70 million and cargo and mail throughput of 1.5 million tons per year by 2035. It is planned to build Terminal 3 with an area of 410,000 square meters and is poised to introduce five rail transit lines including Beijing-Binhai Railway and Beijing-Tianjin Intercity Airport Line. Tianjin Binhai Airport is a domestic trunk airport, an international scheduled flight airport, a national first-class air port, and one of China's major air cargo centers. It is an important infrastructure of the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei world-class airport cluster and an important gateway airport in North China.
